Guest Speaker - Doug DeCinces
Doug DiCinces played 15 years in the big leagues with the Baltimore Orioles, California Angels, and St. Louis Cardinals. He made his MLB debut at the age of 23 with the Orioles after spending three seasons in the minor leagues with the team that drafted him in the third round in 1970.
DiCinces became the Orioles' everyday third baseman four years later, taking over for fan-favorite and Hall of Famer, Brooks Robinson. DiCinces played nine seasons for the Orioles, the last six as an everyday player, batting .286 with 28 homers, 37 doubles and 80 RBIs in 1978. The Orioles beat the Angels in the ALCS and lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series in 1979.
He was traded to the California Angels in January 1982 and excelled that season in Anaheim, hitting .301 with 42 doubles, 30 home runs and 97 RBIs, all career-highs, earning a Silver Slugger Award and finishing third in the MVP voting. He was named to the All-Star team in 1983 and spent six total seasons with the Angels, amassing 130 of his 237 career home runs and 481 of his 879 RBIs with the club. The club lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in the 1982 ALCS and to the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 ALCS.
DiCinces was released by the Angels and played four games at the end of the 1987 season with the St. Louis Cardinals before spending one year in Japan with the Yakult Swallows.
He returned to Baltimore in 2006 for induction into the team's Hall of Fame. Also noted:
