Coach Maxwell has been the Head High School Baseball Coach at Ensworth High School since its founding in 2004. Before coming to Ensworth, Coach Maxwell attended Middle Tennessee State University where he was an All-Conference player for the Blue Raiders baseball team in 1992 and 1993. The Chicago Cubs drafted Coach Maxwell in 1993. He went on to play professionally for 12 years, after six seasons in the minor leagues, Maxwell made his Major League debut with the Cubs in 1998. He also saw playing time in the major leagues with the Minnesota Twins in 2000 and 2001 before beginning his coaching career in 2004 as the first coach in school history for Ensworth. Maxwell finished his minor league career with 991 hits, 103 home runs, and 487 RBIs.
Coach Maxwell has served on the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association (TBCA) and the American Baseball Coaches Association Diversity in Baseball Committee, and as a coach for the TBCA Showcase Classic and USA Baseball teams. Coach Maxwell was the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association DII-AA Sectional Coach of the Year. Coach Maxwell was named coach for the 2021 Major League Baseball/USA Baseball High School All American Game and was honored with the Nashville Old Timers Baseball Association "Mr. Baseball" Award.
An Assistant Coach for the 2016 USA 15U National Team, the team won the Bronze Medal in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Championships in Japan. As Manager for 2018 USA Baseball 15U National Team, his squad won a Gold Medal and the WBSC World Championship in Panama. He was also the 2021 USA Baseball 18U Manager and was named the USA Baseball Developmental Coach of the Year in 2018 (15U) and 2021 (18U). In 2023, Jason was named the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) High School Division Chair and assistant coach for the 2023 USA 18U Baseball National Team. Maxwell has also served as the field coordinator for the 2017 14U National Team Development Program (NTDP) and has worked at numerous National Team Trials, the USA Baseball National Team Championships, and the USA Baseball National Team Identification Series (NTIS) throughout his tenure with USA Baseball.
